In India, every year, more than 2,00,000 are born with congenital heart defects (CHD). Though these defects are treatable, many children don’t even get a chance to get to the treatment. This is because the costs of congenital heart defect treatment often range between ₹1,00,000 and ₹5,00,000, which become out of reach for families earning less than ₹20,000 a month.
NGOs across India are working to bridge the gap between families in need of surgery and the financial resources required for congenital heart defect treatment. However, it can often be challenging for NGOs to consistently provide and sustain such support. This is where Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) plays a crucial role. In this article, we will explore why CSR support for non-profit organizations is essential for India’s healthcare system.
CSR Support for Children at Genesis Foundation
Genesis Foundation is a foundation working for children who support heart treatment of children belonging to the age group of 0-18 years and who come from families that earn Rs. 20,000 or less in a month.
They are compliant with the new CSR Form-1 vide registration no CSR00001713 and meet all criteria laid out under Section 135 of Companies Act 2013. This makes them eligible as an implementation partner for CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility).
Genesis Foundation has onboarded companies like Kajaria Ceramics, Optum India, GE Healthcare, HDFC Ergo, George Clinical and SBI Life who provide CSR fund donations. With the help of their CSR partners, Genesis Foundation has been able to support the congenital heart defect treatment of more than 5,400 critically ill children.
How CSR Fund Donation helps Genesis Foundation?
CSR fund donations help Genesis Foundation in the following ways:

- Donations received from corporate partnerships help Genesis Foundation to raise money for child surgery and support as many children diagnosed with CHD who come from families with low-income.
- Besides, the donations help non-profits like Genesis Foundation in getting the necessary funds to undertake activities such as screening camps that aim at building awareness and timely intervention of the disease.
- In addition, there are many overheads costs that need to be covered for organizations to function effectively. Corporate donations to non-profits help in supporting a certain percentage of this cost to ensure better quality of output.
- CSR fund donations also help Genesis Foundation to organize fundraising events such as their flagship event- The Kasauli Rhythm and Blues Festival. This festival is one of the top music festivals in India, where in all funds raised at the festival go towards the treatment of critically ill children with CHD.
- CSR support for children can also help NGOs to fund awareness campaigns about congenital heart defects and their prevention.
How to Provide CSR Support for Children at Genesis Foundation

- Corporates can either make corporate charity donations to support the heart surgeries of the children. The foundation makes tailor-made projects for their donors. They build strong relationships with companies, offering branding opportunities, and providing regular updates of the child that has been supported. The Foundation also ensures they have a team dedicated to catering to all the requirements of the corporate and ensuring smooth implementation of funds.
- The companies can engage in monthly employee giving programs like the Power of 100+. Power of 100+ is a payroll giving initiative, through which employees of a company voluntarily contribute INR 100 (or more) from their monthly salary to the Foundation. This helps in building a sustained flow of funds as a community for saving critically ill children. This initiative stems from our belief that no amount is too small when given with pure intent and towards a good cause. When 100 or more individuals even contribute Rs. 100, it helps generate a significant amount that can support critical heart treatments.
